Daniel Zitterbart, a PhD physics student the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany, took time-lapsed images of a penguin huddle near the Neumayer Antarctic Research Station. Images were taken every second over a four-hour period. Sped-up footage of the penguin huddle shows the group takes very small steps, creating a wave. Researchers think the undulations help ensure each penguin gets a turn in the middle of the huddle, which helps the birds keep warm. Researchers also think that the small movements may improve the penguin's blood circulation. Take a look:
