PostHeaderIcon Creator of Tribble-like Robot Named Lovotics Says Bot Was Programmed With the Ability to Love

Lovotics Robot

Hooman Samani, artificial intelligence researcher in Keio-NUS CUTE Center, has come up with Lovotics, a white Tribble-like robot that he claims has the ability to love and be loved by humans. It looks like a simple toy, but the technology inside it is more complex according to the Lovotics website. The robot uses its internal sensors and cameras to try and increase the probability of love with a human. The robot has a psychological unit that "calculates probabilistic parameters of love between humans and the robot" and an affective system that "analyzes system inputs to generate suitable states and behaviors for the robot in real-time." Meeting the new Asbestos Management Regulations, --- our system helped a Heathrow organisation to be declared as Best in Britain at their recent HSE inspection, a major driver for this success was the Redenet asbestos management system. A system to ensure you can meet all obligations relating to Asbestos control, and an unusual system in that it can and does exceed all expectations. Versions are available for companies of all sizes. We also have a version specifically for environmental managemen...

PostHeaderIcon Physicist Michio Kaku Explains the Concept of a Space Elevator

Physicist Michio Kaku talked to The Daily aobut the concept of a space elevator. Kaku says the most expensive part of space travel is the first 100 miles. Escaping Earth's gravity requires a lot of power. Kaku says the idea of a space elevator used to be ridiculous, but it is getting more serious thought thanks to a new technology. Kaku says carbon nanotubes made with graphene could help reduce the cost of a space elevator. Graphene is also strong enough to suspend a space elevator without breaking. Unfortunately, producing carbon nanotubes with graphene in large amounts is not yet possible. Kaku thinks the space elevator could "open up the Universe for the average person." Take a look:

PostHeaderIcon Scientists Create Beagle Puppy Clone That Glows in the Dark

Glow in the dark Beagle Puppy Paw

Seoul National University researchers genetically engineered a dog that glows when placed under ultraviolet light. The glow in the dark beagle puppy, named Tagon, is also a clone. The dog's ability to glow can be triggered on and off by adding a drug (a doxycycline antibiotic) to its food. The scientists hope the cloning technique will lead to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's cures. The same researchers created glowing cats in 2007. Take a look:

PostHeaderIcon Scientists Develop Robotic Octopus Tentacle, Part of Larger Plan to Develop Complete Octobot

Robotic Tentacle

Scientists have developed a robotic version of an octopus tentacle. The goal is to create a complete underwater octobot. Discovery News reports that the robotic tentacle is part of a larger project funded by the European Commission to create a functional full-body octopus robot. The octobot could help with underwater exploration and and perhaps underwater rescues. The robotic tentacle could even be used for surgical procedures. The video below shows the robotic tentacle successfully grabbing a plastic bottle dropped into a tank. Take a look:

PostHeaderIcon Animal Friends: Baboon Adopts Bushbaby

A baboon and a bushbaby, named Gakii, have become friends at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage. Nairobi Animal Orphanage. Animal orphanages can lead to unusual situations where animals come together that might avoid each other in the wild. Even so, the keepers at the orphanage have never seen a baboon and bushbaby become friends before.

Edward Kariuki, Kenya Wildlife Service, says the baboon is helping take care of the young bushbaby. He says, "It so happens that after keeping them for quite sometime they have developed a relationship where the baboon is now taking care of the young bushbaby. This is not normal. It has not happened here and I guess it has not happened anywhere else."
