PETMAN is an anthropomorphic robot developed by Boston Dynamics, the creators of the Big Dog robot. PETNAM looks a freakish killing machine, but the purpose of the PETMAN robot is only to test special clothing used by the U.S. Army. PETMAN balances itself as it walks, squats and does calisthenics. PETMAN even does pushups. Boston Dynamics says simulates human physiology by controlling temperature, humidity and sweating inside the clothing to provide realistic test conditions. Take a look:

London Designer Ben Alun-Jones is exhibiting a collection of vanishing furniture. At some angles you cannot see the furniture, which includes chairs and tables. Alun-Jones uses mirrors and special design techniques to achieve the near invisibility. The furniture responds to a person's presence so people won't walk right into them or trip over them. 7 Billionth babies are being celebrated as the world's population is thought to have reached the 7 billion mark. The babies are cute, but the population reaching 7 billion makes this Halloween truly scary. The growing human population raises concerns about just how many people the planet can support.

The 7 billion number was selected by the United Nations. National Geographic says the U.S. Census Bureau doesn't think the planet will reach the 7 billion human mark until March 12, 2012.

John Bongaarts, vice president of the Population Council, argues that the actual date Earth attains the 7 billion humans mark is not important. What's important is that there are tons of people living on a planet with limited resources. Bongaarts says, "Worrying about whether the population is 6.95 or 7.05 billion is a bit missing the point. The message is that we have a huge population and we should learn to pay attention to its impact."

Hurricanes come in different shapes and sizes. This is evident in the photograph above which shows Hurricane Irene approaching New York City and little Tropical Storm Jose, which is near Bermuda. Hurricane Irene's tropical storm force winds extend out for up to 320 miles, while Jose's winds extend out for up to 50 miles according to the National Hurricane Center.
